3D BOOK COVER

I built a 1970s TV set for the 3D book cover, “A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live.”

Handcrafted from cardboard, this TV is intended only for the biggest SNL fan and collector, who would appreciate - and pay for - a limited-run collector’s edition.

The book is a detailed study of the rise and fall of SNL's first five years (1975-1980). From overnight success to drugs, corruption, and betrayal, we are reminded that TV is never innocent.

INSIDE THE TV

An ugly, chaotic writers’ room.

I hung torn-up newspaper clippings on the wall, symbolizing the source for sketch material.

Famous characters and one-liners from notable sketches decorate the writer’s table. From left to right: Samari Futaba, Mr. Bill, The Landshark, Mr. Conehead, and The Blues Brothers.

The famous bulletin board that announced upcoming hosts and sketches.

BACK OF THE TV

A warning label and power source.

The warning label as the book's foreword.

The TV is plugged into a bag of cocaine for power.
